Like Mother Like Daughter

November 10, 2015

There is nothing quite like traveling home to spend time with loved ones, wherever home may be. This past weekend I went home to the Carolinas to spend time with my family. After months of trying to find the time, my mother and I were finally able to do our shoot together.

Our shoot allowed us to connect on a deeper level, embrace the beautiful women we have become, and be comfortable in our skin. As time flies, it's easy to lose sight of our inner beauty and self worth. Taking the time to experience all of our own beauty allows us to forget what society defines as beautiful and allows us to formulate our own definition. There is so much power in being able to set our own standards and viewing ourselves how we truly want to be.

As women, we are so used to taking care of others and forget to take care of ourselves. I continue to admire my mother's confidence and strength as she takes care of her aging father, is constantly a supportive partner and mom, and re-examines her personal definition of self love with vitiligo. One day I hope to echo all of the strong energy she posses. Throughout my life, she has been an amazing mother, friend, and ear through my struggles, heartaches, and growth. As I come into my own and follow my own path, I look forward to being the support and rock for my mother the way she has always been for her loved ones. I will forever cherish the bond that my mother and I have, one that is always growing in strength.

We are all powerful beyond measure and must never forget that. Embrace all of who you are and will become as you travel through your journey.
